Adult parties can be as fun or as formal as you want. Depending on the crowd you might want a super fun childish event with all the works, magicians, face painters, games, etc. If your crowd is a little more reserved, an event with less pomp and circumstance may be a better option. Find the party that is ideal for your group and either go all out with decor and activities, or keep it to a minimum with just a slight hint of a theme. What matters is that you and your guests have a good time!
We’ve all seen Alice in Wonderland, and with the new Disney version that came out in 2010, Mad hatter tea parties are popping up everywhere. It doesn’t matter if you are a child or an adult, this party can be catered to any age group.
For an adult audience, a comedian would be very entertaining for this party. A mad hatter tea party is after all supposed to be madly funny! Invite your guests to dress up and be surprised by what people come up with! Have mad hats ready for your guests to wear if they didn’t bring their own.
The British are famous for their tea parties with towers of fluffy scones and jam, finger sandwiches, mini quiches and fruit tartlets. Whether your party is a lunch, tea, or dinner party, use the same concept of tea party finger foods.
Add any other items you feel you and your guests would like such as mini cookies that say eat me, cupcakes in the shape of mushrooms, chocolate-dipped strawberries, anything goes! Make sure to serve lots and lots of tea! Have a variety of teas brewing in an assortment of mismatched teapots.
Games and Activities
Play a few rounds of musical chairs, or musical tea cups where you sit at a table and pass around teacups until the music stops, whoever doesn’t have a teacup in their hand loses and leaves the circle.
If you want your guests to get really involved, how about you give them plain teacups to paint and then they can take them home as souvenirs of your party.
Get straw hats for the guests to decorate with ribbons and silk flowers. Recreate the tale of Alice in Wonderland
Play mad libs, it will have you clinching off your seat laughing after reading just a few stories.
Play card games or poker, the winner gets crowned the queen of hearts.
Play a game of croquet if you have a back yard or outdoor area. Simply make arches out of floral wire and stick them in various places around your lawn, and use golf clubs or brooms to hit golf balls through the arches.
The beauty of a mad tea party is that there should be no normalcy in your decoration. Use mismatched teacups to serve beverages. Use bright colors for your tableware. Use balloons, hanging lanterns and paper flowers to give more height and color to the room.
Find oversized teacups or flower planters in different sizes and decorate the table with them- stack them high or serve food out of them. Paint (badly) white roses red and use them as a centerpiece. If you want children’s paper goods for this party here is a great Topsy Turvy Tea Party one.
